![]() In short, if you're relatively good at sussing out the difference between fear-ware and an actual threat, the free version of Avast is great. ![]() They also try to do the upsell when they do an update to the definitions, but it's not so bad. If you're not paying fairly close attention, you'll find yourself buying for the pro version when all you really intended was to renew your subscription to the free version. :( The other not-so-pleasing thing is the semi-sneaky upsell when you renew your registration. They say things like, "Your connection is exposed! Hackers can see you!" I just click through them, but less savvy users might panic-buy a product they don't really need. What I hate about them is that they are fear-ware. There are many popups, which is to be expected in a free version. What is NOT so good is the constant spam. I'm using the free version and yes, that is one of the huge perks: the free version is fully functional. I really like Avast as an antivirus, and I have been quite pleased with the protection overall.
